Hello Village families,

As we head into this next week, here are a few reminders for you...

This week, On Tuesday, September 29th, Village teachers have planned a Virtual Family Game Night. This is an opportunity for your families and ours to be silly and have fun together, something we all need more of these days. We really hope you'll join us for this fun family night. Click here for the link.

Also this week, as September comes to a close our attendance competition is heating up! Use these last few days of the months to pull your class ahead and win the class prize!

Finally, be on the lookout for progress reports to be sent out by email on or before Monday, October 5th. Progress reports are an opportunity for teachers, students, and families to see where students are academically and behaviorally, and to make a plan to support students in the second half of the trimester so that by the end of Trimester 1 students are where they need to be and are showing off their very best selves. Please reach out to your child's teacher(s) with questions as they arise.

For all you do to support the school and community each day, we thank you!

In partnership,

Teresa Rowan
Principal, Village PK-8 School

September 4, 2020

Good afternoon Village families,
Happy Friday everyone! We have made it through our third week of distance learning, and though there are still a few glitches, things are getting smoother every day. We very much appreciate your grace, your support and your at-home efforts to get your children logged in and participating each day. We are better together!

As we head into this long Labor Day weekend, I have a few important reminders and updates...

  • No School Monday due to the Labor Day holiday!  Middle School Students this means that when we return, you will log into periods 2, 4, and 6.
  • School Site Council - Today is the last day to vote for our School Site Council parent volunteers. Click the link below and cast your vote!

  • iReady Diagnostic Assessment - your children have been hard at work on their initial iReady diagnostic assessment.  Most of them have completed this in the time allotted, but a few are not quite finished.  Please check in with your child and ask if they have completed this important assessment.  Remind him/her that the current assessment will expire on Tuesday and that anyone still unfinished at that time will need to start over.  NO ONE wants that, so please help us to advocate for completion before Tuesday!
  • Mark your calendars!  Village staff invites you and your family to participate with us and our families in a Family Game Night on Tuesday, September 29th at 6:00 PM.  See the attached flyer for details!

Thank you very much for being such an important part of the Village school community!

Hello Village families,

With the first week of school behind us, I want to take a minute to let you know how much we appreciate your patience, your persistence, and your grace, as we reinvent the world of teaching and learning.  We are so appreciative of the support and reassurance you are providing to your children and to our teachers and staff.  Together is the only way we get through this, and we couldn't be more grateful to have you on our team.  We know the first week was perfectly imperfect, but I truly believe that each week will be better than the last, so please continue to get your children logged in and attending.  As always, we are here to support you, so please don't hesitate to reach out.

August 17, 2020

Good evening Village Families.

Welcome to the start of the 2020-21 school year! Though this is not how we had hoped to be starting off our school year, we are excited to finally get back to teaching and learning with our Village students and families.  Our teachers and support staff have been working hard to plan and prepare a quality distance learning experience for your child.  It all begins tomorrow, August 18th.  We look forward to seeing you all again on Zoom bright and early.  In grades K-6 school begins at 8:15 AM, and in Grades 7-8 school begins at 8:00 AM.

We are  all here to help, so please email your child’s teacher with any question that you might have as we navigate this new system together.  Mr. Booth and I are also here to help in any way we can, and look forward to sharing some important information with you tomorrow evening at 5:00 PM or 6:30 PM, at our Back-to-School Night Zoom Meeting.  You can login right from our school website by clicking the link “Back-to-School Zoom with Mrs. Rowan” from the “Upcoming Events” section on our homepage.

Some first day reminders:

  • Make sure your Chromebook is charged tonight!
  • Make sure you know your schedule and where to find your Zoom link.  If you're not sure, check your student email, Google classroom, and/or parent portal.
  • Middle School students, remember that you will attend periods 1, 3, and 5 tomorrow.
  • Everyone get a good night’s sleep.
  • And log in tomorrow!

We can’t wait to have our students back on our campus, safely, in the future. In the meantime, embrace distance learning to the fullest and let’s all work together to provide the best possible learning environment for our students. Have a great first day of school everyone. Tomorrow, and every day, is a great day to be a Viking!

July 24, 2020

Hello Village Families,

I have two important updates to help you plan and prepare for the upcoming school year.
  • As you probably know by now, we will begin the coming school year with a 100% at-home Distance Learning model.  In order to strengthen our Distance Learning program, this year we will be distributing textbooks and instructional materials for students to use while they are learning at home.  These materials will be distributed on August 10th and August 11th.  Please save the dates!  Currently, we are developing a plan to ensure that materials can be distributed safely and efficiently, and will communicate the plan as soon as possible on our website.
  • TRUSD is conducting a parent survey about our eventual transition to an in-person instructional model when health and safety conditions will allow it.  TRUSD leaders are using your feedback for planning - please chime in!
To participate in the survey, please click on the appropriate link below.

I will continue to share updates as they occur.  Until next time, stay safe, healthy, and happy!

Respectfully,

Teresa Rowan

July 17, 2020

Hello Village Families,

I hope you are enjoying a relaxing, fun summer, and I hope you, your friends, and your family are staying safe and healthy!

On July 15, our Superintendent, Dr. Martinez as well as the Superintendent of the Sacramento County Office of Education, announced that all Sacramento County school districts would open the school year with 100% Distance Learning.  This decision was based on the latest public health information showing increasingly high coronavirus infection rates in our county.  Obviously, the health and safety of students, staff, and families is the top priority.  Twin Rivers will continue developing plans to make distance learning and the eventual return to school as safe as possible and as educationally effective as possible.  We will continue to monitor health and safety conditions in our community to make decisions about our 2020-2021 program in the months ahead.  I’ll keep you as informed as possible about how all of this specifically affects our Village School Community.  Beginning with this message, I will send you a weekly message with any updates and announcements through the rest of the summer and into the fall.

Our first day of school is still Tuesday, August 18!  During the next few weeks you can expect to receive information about how to get ready.  You will get this information from the district office, and you will get this information from me. From me, you will receive phone messages, emails, and school website and social media updates.

As information becomes known, I will communicate to you:
  • Who your child’s teacher is.
  • How and when to pick up materials.
  • How to use the new online parent portal for communication.
  • How and when to pick up a Chromebook.
  • How and when to pick up last year's yearbooks. (We haven't forgotten about that!)
  • And anything else that comes my way.
Again, I hope you’re well.  I know that I speak for all of our Village staff when I say, we can't wait to see you and your children again soon.  Until then, please stay safe, healthy, and happy!

Respectfully,

Teresa Rowan
